What's up everybody — Beau here. This is another weekly rock news wrap up from The Sonic Road Podcast. This is just a snap shot of some music headlines to check out. I’m slogging through the headlines, so you don’t have to. Yeah, I know. Not all hero’s wear capes. Lets get started.
Ozzy & Black Sabbath Hit the Big Screen
Grab the popcorn, because Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning is coming to theaters worldwide starting October 28th. If you somehow missed it, this was Sabbath’s final show back in July 2025 at Villa Park in Birmingham, Ozzy’s hometown. The original lineup played together for the first time in over 20 years, and it was Ozzy’s last show before he passed just 17 days later. Jack and Sharon hosted the world premiere in LA last week. Geezer, Bill Ward, Slash, Gene Simmons, Scott Ian, our boy Micheal Miley from Rival Sons and a whole pile of other rock royalty walked the purple carpet. Geezer summed up that night pretty well: “It was just a wave of love.” The guy who directed the Taylor Swift Eras Tour film directed this one too, so expect it to look and sound massive. I mean, its Sabbath so it better be. Turn it up to eleven, and bring some tissues.
Iron Maiden Isn’t Done With Us Yet
Remember when Maiden said they were taking 2027 off? Yeah, about that. Steve Harris says the band had so much fun on the Run For Your Lives tour that they just added a 16-show North American leg running April 14 through May 16, 2027. Bullet For My Valentine and The Raven Age are coming along for the ride. The best news for us Ohio folks? Maiden is headlining Sonic Temple in Columbus on May 14th. General on-sale is today at 10 a.m. local time, so get those clicking fingers ready. Pray to the concert gods for reasonable prices! Up the Irons!
Nevermind Passes Back in Black
Nirvana’s Nevermind just squeaked past AC/DC’s Back in Black to become the sixth best-selling album of all time, according to the stat nerds at Chartmasters. And when I say squeaked, I mean by 1,000 units. Out of almost 67 million. That’s like one good Saturday at a record store in Cleveland. These numbers mix in streams and singles, so AC/DC still wins on physical copies, 37 million to 30 million. The best part? Kurt reportedly took guitar lessons in eighth grade just so he could learn “Back in Black.” And when Malcolm Young was asked about Nirvana back in ‘92, he said, “Singer’s a blond feller… bit of a poser.” Ouch! Either way, two all-time classics, and I’m not choosing. Don’t make me choose.
